Subject Auto-correction

From PluginWiki

Jump to: navigation, search

We spend a lot of time dealing with messages where the subject line isn't right.  Colour-coding Subjects helps you easily see when they're wrong - but the plugin can also help you correct them more easily, and automatically suggest a better subject line.  It won't always get this right, but it often will.

Above the subject line of the message, you'll see an editable box. This will either say Edit or Suggested - Edit is when it thinks the subject is pretty good, and Suggested is when it thinks it needs correcting. They're different colours, so Suggested stands out more.

Suggested Subject Lines

The plugin will put its best guess at a better subject line into this box. Here's a suggestion:

Note the way the plugin has worked out that this is a WANTED message and found a location, then formatted the subject line accordingly. If there's a location it isn't recognising, go to Features->Map Options and add it into the Known Locations box (you can do this whether or not you are using the Maps function).

You can then edit the subject line and hit Change - and it'll modify the subject line in the message. It's ok to then approve the message from the Pending page - it'll send out the one with the modified subject.

The plugin tries quite a few tricks to improve the subject line, and occasionally some of these will make it worse instead.  So do please check what it suggests before clicking on Change.  There's not really any way to make this perfect, but if you think it can be improved, raise it on the group.

Freegle Groups

For Freegle groups using the Republisher, we can do quite a lot more tricks, and the subject line corrections will generally be considerably better.

Editing Subject Lines

This is much the same - you just modify the subject line in the box and hit Change.

Advanced Options

You can do more to customise the way this works. See Advanced Subject Options. In particular, there's an option in there to control the width of the box: Features->Advanced Subject Configuration->Subject Auto-Corrections->Width for box.
