Recording Moderator Messages

From PluginWiki

Jump to: navigation, search

When you have multiple moderators working on a group, it can sometimes be hard to know what's going on. For example:

  • You might not know when other mods have rejected messages.
  • If you're scanning the Messages page and sending follow-up messages about posts that were wrong, you might not know when another mod has already dealt with a message.

You can CC your messages to keep other moderators informed - but that still relies on their memory of what messages they've been CC'd on.

To help with this, you can configure the plugin to record and display information about mod mails that you've sent.

Access Keys

To use this function you must already have an Access Key configured for your group.

What you configure

You access this configuration from Features (tab) > Moderator Activity Database (button):

You'll see this configuration:

Note:

  • The Enable checkbox turns this on or off.
  • The Show type of message checkbox controls whether you'll see the type of the message, which is Rejection, Edit, Follow-up or Pending Member.
  • The Show button label checkbox controls whether you'll see the button label (that's what shows up as the name you click on).

Normally, you should use the standard database for this, at http://db.modplugin.org, so you don't need to do anything. But if you use a different database, configure it here.

What you'll see

Once you've done this, then you'll start to see information about moderator replies with the other message count information. This only applies to new messages you send - it won't suddenly show up old ones you sent before you did the configuration.

This will display in red if there are any recent moderator messages, or in green if there haven't been any (i.e. the count is 0). If you move your mouse over the count, you'll see the dates and subjects of the moderator messages which have been sent, as well as the Yahoo ID of the moderator who sent them.

And messages you've sent a response to will be flagged:

You'll also see this information on the Pending Members page, so you can use it to see which messages have been sent there too.

When do entries get made?

A couple of things to remember about what this will include:

  • It will include information from upto 31 days by default, but this can be any range upto 90 days, (though see Changing what 'Recent' means). Entries older than that will be automatically deleted.
  • It will only include information about messages sent using the plugin, by someone who has this function configured. So if you've configured it, but your other moderators haven't, then it will only record messages you send, not ones they send.
  • Your other moderators will only see it if they also have this function configured - using the same key.
  • Entries get added when you click to send a standard message (not when you click on the link to open a new standard message, but when you send it), or it autosends.  If you're Sending by Email then it won't record it if the send fails, but if you're posting via Yahoo then it might (though Yahoo posts rarely fail).

Looking at the list manually

You can see the moderator messages for your group manually, by substituting your group access key into the following URL.

http://db.modplugin.org/getsentmsgs.php?&Grpkey=insertgroupkeyhere&Maxage=31

Do a Ctrl-U on the resulting page to make it more readable.
