This page provides an index into the various features of the plugin, organised by where they appear in each of the plugin's 8 configuration tabs. Thanks to Jools for putting this together.

Features Tab

If you don't see some of the things mentioned below on your screen, then make sure you have a tick in the Show Advanced Features box in the More Features section (see 9.1 a little further down this section).

  8. Save/Restore Settings - see Backing Up
    1. Save Preferences - allows you to choose what you wish to include in your export - see Sharing your settings
    2. Load Preferences - allows you to import your own (or someone else's preferences) - see Sharing your settings
    3. Manage Preferences - takes you to a dialog which lets you Clear All Preferences (to be used with extreme care) or those for individual groups. See Managing Preferences
  9. More Features
    1. Show Advanced Features - (default is OFF), shows or hides more complex features.
    2. Tab Options - opens a window where you configure what happens when you click an plugin link and allows you to choose between existing tab and new tab - see Changing the way tabs work
    3. Colours - opens a window where you can choose you own colour scheme for information added by the plugin, instead of using the default - see Changing the default colours
    4. Mail Options - opens a window where you can configure how messages are sent; instead of posting them via Yahoo, you can send them via modplugin.org or through an external email server such as gmail. You can control other things about what happens when sending messages from here, such as not posting from the -owner address and closing the tab after it's finished.
    5. More Standard Messages - opens a window where you can configure messages which the plugin will send when it does certain operations - see More Standard messages
    6. Moderation Database - opens a window where you configure the database which keeps a count of all moderation emails - see Recording moderator messages
    7. Map Options See Maps.
    8. Advanced Options - opens a window where you can choose to enable all sorts of goodies (as listed below)
      1. Show Remove link - (default is OFF), allows you to remove members from the group in a single click - see Removing Members
      2. Show joined date - (default is OFF), shows you when members joined the group - see Show joined date
      3. Show webreplies - (default is OFF), using information from the group's management logs, the plugin can display a count of a members replies via your group website - see Show web replies
      4. Show delivery options - (default is OFF), shows the member's current email delivery option and allows you to change it - see Email delivery options
      5. Show work to do - (default is OFF), configure if the plugin tells you when your groups have work to do - see Show work to do
      6. Show Ban link - (default is OFF), allows you to ban members from the group in a single click - see Banning members
      7. Member Of - (default is OFF), allows you to see when members are in other groups you moderate - see Member Of
      8. Show No Post link - (default is OFF), allows you to alter a members email delivery setting to 'No Post' in a single click - see Setting a member to No Post
      9. Show Moderator - (default is OFF), show who approved a message - see Moderator Information
      10. Show recent Moderator activity - (default is OFF), show who's moderated your group recently - see Moderator_Information
      11. Show Floating Summaries - (default is ON), if you move your mouse over the Wanted/Offer/Taken/Received/Other message counts, you'll see the date and subject subject lines of the messages - see Summarise Posts
      12. Sort Messages by Sender - (default is OFF), self explanatory, only works on Pending Messages page - see Sorting Pending Messages
      13. Shrink Signatures - (default is ON), displays message signatures and the Fair Offer Policy to a small font so as to save screen space
      14. Show Yahoo's Edit link - (default is ON), allow you to hide Yahoo's Edit message link - see Hide Yahoo's Edit Link
      15. Check Multiple Recipients - (default is OFF), flags up when a message has been sent to multiple groups at the same time - see Showing Multiple Recipients
      16. Check replies - (default is OFF), shows when a message sent to your group was done by replying to an existing message - see Flagging Replies
      17. Show Related - (default is ON) - tries to match OFFER/TAKEN and WANTED/RECEIVED - see Match Related Messages
      18. Check My Freecycle - (default is OFF) - shows when posts have been made via My Freecycle - see Posts via the My Freecycle website
      19. Check Special Notice - (default is OFF), shows when a message was a Special Notice - see Special Notices
    9. More Advanced Options - opens a window where you can chose to enable all sorts from this second lot of goodies (as listed below)
      1. Extension limits
        1. Max. message characters - (default is 0) - if you have preview of message content enabled, this is where you can configure how many characters are displayed - see Restricting Content Length
        2. Max WANTEDs - (default is 0) - allows you set the maximum number of WANTED posts a member can post to your group in a given period - see Limiting WANTED messages. This function works in conjunction with the Recent Message Counts function which is described below.
      2. Recent Messages - (default is 31) - for checking purposes, the plugin needs to know how many days you define as 'recent'. You can configure 3 separate values for 'recent' - see Changing what 'Recent' means
        1. Message counts - the number of days for which information on OFFER/TAKEN/WANTED/RECEIVED posts to YOUR group are held. If your group restricts WANTED posts to a maximum of 4 per 31 day period, then use this box in conjunction with the Limiting WANTED messages function described above
        2. Crossposts - the number of days for which information on posts in OTHER groups on your crosspost checklist is held in order to warn you of crossposting
        3. Duplicates - the number of days for which information on posts in YOUR group is held in order to warn you of duplicates
      3. Days between backup reminder - (default is 7) - backing up your preferences regularly (and always before updating either Firefox, or the plugin) is always advisable - see Backing Up. If you want to be reminded more often (or, not advised not at all) alter the value in this box
      4. Bits and Bobs
        1. Taskbar Icon - (default is ENABLED) - choose whether or not to show the plugin's icon in your taskbar - see Taskbar Icon
        2. Name for standard messages - (default is blank) - the name which you wish to use when sending out messages via the Plugin. To include this name within messages, use the substitution string $myname - see Using Substitution Strings
        3. Name of regifting network - (default is blank) - the name of your regifting network, e.g. Freegle. To include this name within messages, use the substitution string $networkname - see Using Substitution Strings
        4. Refresh file texts - (default is 60) - used when your rejection messages are comprised of a mixture of text and files texts are stored as files - see Central Rejection Texts
        5. Spam group - this defaults to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FCMODSpammers . See here for more information
        6. Impatient - (default is DISABLED) - by default the plugin won't let you click on a link until it's safe to do so. Some functions will work correctly while the page is still loading. If you want to gain the odd second or two per message when moderating, then the 'impatient' function is for you ... but do read Allowing Early Clicks first.
        7. Change Default to Approve - (OFF by default). Yahoo's default value on the Pending Messages and Pending Members pages is 'Pending'. If you want to change Yahoo's default value to 'Approve', then this function can speed up your moderating. Before you enable this function, read Changing the default to Approve
        8. Ask to ignore on bulk operations - (default is ENABLED) - the plugin can carry out various bulk operations, which are described in full here. For some of the bulk operations, eg. removing bouncing members, you are automatically asked if there are any Yahoo ID's which you wish the plugin to ignore. See Suppress Automatic Ignore popup if you don't want to be asked who to ignore
        9. Spam Icon - (default is ENABLED) - the plugin allows you to report individual spammers automatically - see Reporting Individual Spammers
        10. Expand headers on reply - (default is DISABLED) - when you send a rejection or a follow-up, Yahoo only includes the text of the original message. See Full Replies for the extra information the plugin can automatically insert for you
        11. Joined Dates - allows you to configure the format of your joined dates - see Joined Dates
        12. Grey Out Busy Window - makes it more obvious that you should wait because the plugin is busy - see Greying Out the Current Tab
        13. Auto-refresh - greyed out as not yet operational
        14. Crosspost Frequency - greyed out as not yet operational
        15. Monitor default Groups, plus, or just, exclude - by default the plugin will work on all groups with freegle, freecycle or reuseit in their name. However, it can be made to work on a combination of groups, regardless of whether or nor 'freecycle' is in the group name - see Configure Groups to Monitor to learn how
    10. Even More Advanced Options - opens a window where you can chose to enable all sorts from this third lot of goodies (as listed below)
      1. Strip colon - allows you to remove the colon from Standard Messages - see Removing the colon
      2. Flag long subjects - flags up that a subject line is over Yahoo's 63 character limit, allows you to set number of characters, warning text and colour of warning text - see Flagging Long Subjects
      3. Hide Yahoo Updates - this removes some clutter on the My Groups page. See Hide Yahoo Updates.
      4. Allow Updates - this controls whether Yahoo publicises your activity on groups the plugin works on. See Allow Updates.
      5. Request Pacing - this controls how rapidly the plugin makes requests to Yahoo, which can help if you're seeing 999 errors. See Request Pacing.
      6. Request Timeout - this controls how rapidly the plugin gives up on a request to Yahoo and reissues it. See Request Timeout.
      7. Bulk member delay - this controls the delay in seconds between Bulk Operations.
    11. Debug Options - opens a new window where you set up the location of your debug file and where you can clear the message cache - see How to get a Debug Trace

Pending Messages

This is where you set up custom messages which you want to use on a regular basis when moderating pending messages. You also use this section to say where those messages are to be cc'd - see Setting up Standard Rejection Messages and Configuring where the CC goes to.

This is where you configure Holding Messages.

Messages Tab

This is where you set up custom messages which you want to use on a regular basis when dealing with messages already on the board (perhaps warning someone about crossposting). You also use this section to say where those messages are to be cc'd - see Setting up Follow-up Messages and Configuring where the CC goes to.

Pending Members Tab

This is where you set up custom messages which you want to use on a regular basis when processing pending members (eg.location reminder, rejection for being out of your group's area). You also use this section to say where those messages are to be cc'd - see Setting up standard messages to Pending Members and Configuring where the CC goes to.

Members Tab

This is where you set up custom messages which you want to use on a regular basis when dealing with existing members (perhaps warning someone about crossposting). You also use this section to say where those messages are to be cc'd - see Setting up standard messages to Members and Configuring where the CC goes to.

Admins Tab

This is where you set up custom messages which you'd like to be able to send as ADMIN messages.  You configure them in here, then you get a drop-down list on the Post page to let you send them.  See here.

DB Tab

If you want to keep databases within a Yahoo group - perhaps of denied members, complaints or problem members, this is where you set it all up. There is a text version of how to set up a user database here and, if you're one of those people for whom a picture paints a thousand words, there is also a graphics version here.

Checking Tab

Various things in here, some simple, some not so simple

  1. Worry Words - configure words which you want the plugin to flag up in a message, eg. sell, lend, borrow, swap - see Checking for Worry Words
  2. Locations - if you need a location in your subject line, this is the place to add them - see Checking for Specific Locations
  3. Crosspost Configuration - opens a window where you can add the url of a group so the plugin will flag up posts made to that group as well as your own - see Checking for Crossposts
  4. Check for Duplicates - checks for duplicate posts by same person - see Checking for Duplicates
  5. Check Approximates - this works on duplicate and crosspost checking - see Checking for approximate matches
  6. More Checking
    1. Periodic Checking - opens a window where you can chose to enable checking of the centrally held secure spammer database, existing members of your group who have joined other groups and your membership list against that of another group
      1. Check Spammer List - where you configure checking and frequency of checking of the centrally held secure spammers database - see Checking for Spammers
      2. Check for Joiners - where you configure checking YOUR membership list against the securely held central database - see Periodic Checking of Recently Joined Members. NOTE the Recently Joined Member Check has to be configured and enabled before this will work
      3. Cross-check Membership List - where you configure cross checking your membership list against that of another group - see Crosschecking your Membership List
      4. Clear Ignores - clears the complete list of users you previously told the plugin to ignore. At some time in the past, you'll have clicked a button in this window to ignore a particular member. Clear Ignores removes the whole list, so you'll be prompted for them all again
    2. IP Addresses - opens a window where you can enter details of specific IP addresses which you want flagging up in messages - see Checking for specific IP addresses
    3. Multiple User IDs - opens a window where you can match one User ID with another so that message counts are combined - see Matching multiple Yahoo IDs or email addresses
  7. Recently Joined Member Check - configure the url of the centrally held secure database used to highlight when people join multiple groups - see How to set up the Recently Joined Members Check
  8. Phone numbers - configure how many consecutive numbers you want the plugin to flag up - see Checking for sequences of numbers.

  1. Help - opens this Wiki in a new window
  2. Latest Beta - opens the download of latest beta in a new window
