Configuration Sets

If you use the plugin on different groups, you might want to have different configuration to be used on those different groups. Here's how you do that.

You'll find a Configuration Sets menu on the Taskbar icon menu:

What is a configuration set?

It's a self-contained copy of the plugin's preferences, which you can use to set up different configuration to be used within the same copy of Firefox. For example, you might have a different set of Standard Messages, or you might be configurated to send mail from a different account.

There's a special configuration set called Default, which is what's used if you don't create any others.

How do I create a configuration set?

There are two ways - Add and Clone.

  • Add creates a completely blank configuration. You'll need to set this up before you use it.
  • Clone creates a configuration based on another one. You might want to tweak this after creating it to make the changes you want.If you do, remember the cache is shared between configuration sets (so you're probably best not to remove groups from the cache).

You access both of these from the menu.

What should I call them?

Give them any names you like. For example, if you want to have one set per group, then give it the name of the group. If you want to have a set to cover several groups, choose an appropriate name.

What about the cache?

The cache of messages is shared between configuration sets, to avoid it having to scan messages lots of times.

How do I say which configuration set to use?

At any one time, the plugin is using one of these configuration sets.

  • That's the one which controls how the plugin behaves.
  • That's the one which the Configure option will bring up.

It might be nice if it selected the appropriate one to use for a particular group, even with multiple tabs, but it doesn't do that yet.

You can select the configuration set to use from the menu - the one it's currently using will have a tick (check) next to it.

What do load/save do?

When you export, you'll see a list of configuration sets - tick (check) the ones you want to include in the export.

When you import, if the import file contains a configuration set which you're not currently using, it will ask you whether you want to import it.
