What are they?

Beta Releases are early releases of new function, which are available for testing to find bugs or provide feedback. Although they've been tested before release, you should expect some rough edges or bugs. The more testing and feedback on Betas, the better the quality of the official releases, so by using Betas you help improve this tool.

Installation

You should back up before updating.

There's a button on the Help tab which should install the latest Beta.

You need to be a member of the ModerationPlugin group to use this, because the Beta releases are stored on the Files section. You'll see the version listed there too.

Sometimes there won't be a file there - that's because there's been no beta release since the last official release.

Occasionally version number will be earlier than the last official one you've just seen announced. That's because Edward's forgotten to delete the Beta after releasing the official release which supersedes it. Remind him.

You may find that Tools->Add-ons still shows the same version number. That's ok - it doesn't mean that it hasn't installed properly.

Troubleshooting

If you don't see the usual install popups, and what happens instead is that your machine opens it as though it was a ZIP file (e.g. in WinZIP or WinRAR) then you need to save it to disk and install in the same way as you would for Private Releases.
